Should I ask Verizon for discount?

So, when I went to get my S8, I paid off my V20 in full so that I can get the S8 under monthly payments. Well, their system was acting up so they told me I needed to wait 24 hours our more to get the S8.

Instead, I paid it in full and made sure that she put notes of what happened in my account. I had no problem with waiting 24 hrs but I needed to ship my V20 in the morning, and I couldn't afford to be phone-less even for few hours since I use my phone for business purposes as well.

Should I call Verizon and try to get a discount? I remember other websites giving $100 gift card if you paid the S8 phone in full. I can maybe tell Verizon I could have just bought it elsewhere with discount? It's pretty stupid that they can make you pay your previous phone in full only to tell you their system is acting up.

I'm a little confused what you mean. If you are stating that you had to ship back the V20 to VZW I assume you were paying monthly on the V20? If this is the case and you did a FULL buyout of the device you would keep the V20, not send it back in. If however, you did a trade in of the device (after paying 50% of the device payments on the V20) you were not actually paying this off in full and were simply paying off enough to get the V20 to 50% paid so it could be traded in to then get on a new device payment plan.

Verizon is not going to give you a discount if you aren't due one or if it is not a promotion.

Why would you have had to send the V20 back somewhere? If you paid it off you own it. Were you trading it in for a credit?

No, I sold my V20 to someone else and I promised it to ship it out in the morning.

Then I'm confused by you saying "It's pretty stupid that they can make you pay your previous phone in full only to tell you their system is acting up." ... You chose to pay off the agreement early so you could resell the phone, they didn't make you.

And to echo the sentiments above, there is really nothing here that would warrant a discount or you asking for one.

Technically, they did. I chose to pay off my previous device at that very moment in order to get S8 at that very moment.

Yup. VZW did make you pay it off in order to upgrade. Why? Because that is what it says in your signed agreement. They didn't make you pay it off just to pay it off. Your choosing to upgrade to the S8 and having to pay off the V20 is your choice. Not VZW's. You did that on your own. You also shouldn't have promised to ship the V20 to the person you were selling it to until you had the S8 in your hand and activated. Again, you chose to make that promise. Verizon didn't cause any of that. You did.

You are right, but can you enlighten me how its ok for a carrier to tell me "you must come back in 24 hrs?" after telling me "you have to pay off your device to upgrade to s8." I paid my device, and they didn't hold their promise so I had to pay it in full instead.

Easy. The system may have been down at the moment. It happens. I know they said 24 hours but id you try to do this prior to waiting 24 hours? Did you attempt to purchase the S8 at a corporate store or were you doing this over the telephone or at a premium retailer?
