How do I stop my own wireless number from calling me?  Can I block it?  Should I be concerned that someone somewhere is using my phone number?

I know it can be confusing to see that your own number is calling you, Marekat55. I'm happy to help clear up what is happening. This is called spoofing and here's more on that from the FCC: http://spr.ly/66091rmoX

Basically, your caller ID is supplied false information, sometimes even your own number or something local to compel you to pick up the call. We certainly don't want you to get any unwanted calls. We have solutions such as Call Filter which helps to block robocalls. Here's more info on that: http://spr.ly/66001rmok If you want to block a specific number, here's some more information on how to do that as well: http://spr.ly/66011rmoZ See the section titled "My Verizon - Block specific numbers temporarily" specifically. Does this help?

I just received my first call from my own number. I have to admit it was a little freaky. I understand what spoofing is, but my question is...

if they can make it appear that my number is calling me are they also able to intercept incoming verification calls?

MRM2048, I can certainly understand your concerns if you've received a call from your own number. To confirm, did you answer the call? How many times has this occurred? To clarify, the calling party would not be able to intercept any of your incoming calls.
