Ringtone - PLEASE help!

When my old phone was destroyed, I was forced to buy a new one: LG Accolade VX5600.  I want my old ringtone (a specific bird song).  I have the tone on my computer in both MP3 and WAV format.  Through lots of trial & error, I was able to connect the two devices via Bluetooth.  Everything was going great until I was told the the file was "an unsupported format."  Please, what format do I need?  I've spent hours searching and can't find an answer.  Thanks in advance to anyone who can relieve me of my frustration!

I would forget the bluetooth, and simply send the ringtone (use your email on your computer, attach the mp3 file) to your10digitph#@vzwpix.com It will arrive on your phone as a text message (picture message) and from there you can save the mp3 as a ringtone.
