It's complicated. My husband and I really have to sit down and decide. He won't use much more data, but I will because I'm traveling more and more. That could be a problem. I'm appreciative of the the thoughtful discussion going on here.

I didn't remember seeing it. Are you under contract with your phones now that have Unlimited Data?

No. I haven't been on a contract since 2012. My husband is on contract until 4/16 because he got a phone for my oldest who is now on his own plan (he continues to have unlimited data) My other three kids continue to be on the old plan, but with separate data plans. They are on contract. We have two contracts expiring in 4/16 and on in 2017. I'm not sure what that will mean as far a phone subsidies go. That isn't clear. They are all listed as being eligible for upgrades. This is one of the reasons it is so complicated. As of this moment, I believe they can still receive phone subsidies. Whether that is beneficial in the long run, I'm not sure but it's another thing to factor in. We just put my daughter on a data plan in August and she received a subsidized phone.

I am currently shopping to switch my 4 phone lines over to either Sprint or T-Mobile. There prices are more than fair and the service isn't bad either. Sprint has actually given me a phone to use for 2 weeks to test the service. Like most of you, I've been with Verizon for a long time, but I'm done fighting with them. Hope this helps those shopping for a new service.

It's not right to label customers who use unlimited data plans Data Hogs when the keyword here is Unlimited.  What you do during your unlimited data usage is your unlimited choice

Verizon has no loyalty to it's customers.  That's pretty much that. That 1% of people whether they leave Verizon or not will no longer be advocates. THAT is Verizon's biggest forest for the trees mistake. Verizon is just one more carrier to those folks going forward.

I've been a customer for 15 years after working for them as a contractor. A year or two ago they came after me to tell me they were doing a "routine" review of accounts with any employee discount, 1 of my 4 lines that had thst discount was stripped. There was nothing routine about it... The same motivation... Can we week just a bit more money out of a 15 year customer with a $300 + bill already?

To quote the whole nine yards, "don't kid yourself... This one? (Verizon) he'll kill you for a quarter."

Same motivations apply to this grab.  Have NO loyalty to Verizon as I no longer do, they have none to you and thus don't deserve it.  If you have any benefit they can strip, they will.  Unlimited would already be gone if not for the backlash.

Verizon Customer Service talks a good game but Its all lip service! I will reward Verizon for their price increase by using all of the data that I can. Thanks Verizon! 1% of us could not possibly use that much data that it compromises network integrity as I was informed by CSR Kristy this evening.

Loyalty has a price now? I have been with Verizon for 14 years, a smartphone user for (only) four, so because I didn't jump on the smartphone train right away I am less loyal? No, loyalty with a price tag is not loyalty. It's leverage, to you, it seems. Maybe your loyalty can be bought, but mine can't. I stay with Verizon because I get the service I want at a price I find reasonable. It's not loyalty, it's basic economics.

Loyalty to a corporation is ridiculous. Of course Verizon is not loyal to you. They provide a service in exchange for money, that's it. You're not BFFs. It is a business relationship. Claims of loyalty imply you would stay DESPITE the price increase. Seeing as how Verizon has provided you with unlimited data for soooooo long without increasing the price, don't you owe them that for being such a LOYAL provider to you in a rapidly changing market? No? Funny, the shoe doesn't feel right on the other foot, does it?
