I recently moved and I do not get reception at my home. It is in a rural area. The coverage map shows it is a spotty coverage area. I would like to try to cancel my account but would like to know if I will have to pay an early termination fee.

Doubtful, but it can't hurt to ask.

Call CS, from a different phone, they'll do some troubleshooting to try and fix it, they'll transfer you to tech, they'll do further troubleshooting to try and improve the signal, then if that doesn't work, they'll create a ticket in the system, send a tech out to the area, verify it has marginal coverage, if it does, you will be able to cancel your service without an ETF. Tech has to allow it first.

What kind of different phone? Landline? Another cell on a different plan? And THEIR coverage map showing marginal coverage isnt good enough?

They have to submit it to there Network department to check the area. Just having it on the map isn't good enough unfortunately. Yes a landline works. Any other phone besides the one they would troubleshoot is good. It's a lot better that way.

Try to cancel but if you can't they do have network extender that attach to your cable modem and you will get reception.
They charge you $259 for it. This just happened to me but I am month to month so I am going to cancel my service.
I offered to split the cost with them but they told me they could only discount it $100. I agreed but they charged me for the entire amount anyway. When I called to get them to credit my account they said, "NO." I have been with them over 10 years but they don't care so I am pricing other companies now... Good Luck!

Last week. I don't live in a rural area either. And their map shows good coverage. I have been living this way for years. I thought all cell phones were the same bouncing off of each others towers. A friend of a friend was over my house and talking on her cell phone... I was amazed. Clear as day with at&t. All my Verizon friends have the same problem I do in my house. No reception. Even if I walk out side.
