Poor cell coverage at home

Hello - we have had poor cell coverage at home since we moved here in September 2014. We live in the Churchill area of Falls Church, Virginia zip 22043. There is clearly a dead-spot right around our home near the corner of Beacon Lane and Overbook - if a call goes through in this immediate area, it will typically drop after a few minutes, and while connected, only about 25-50% of voice goes through (i.e., it is very choppy). Because we have a landline, it has been manageable up to now, but given how long it has been with no improvement, we feel it is time Verizon improved service in this area. Please advise the process for this improvement to take place. Thanks.

KRIWIN26,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I know you depend on your service to be reliable and I'll be happy to help fix this. I researched the area and found no outages reported. How far do you have to travel before the service improves? Can you access data and message?

Verizon can confirm if you're in an area with marginal coverage, but Verizon doesn't have any magical fix to improve service if the nearest towers are working properly. Any update to their network would be made based of a far too wide number of metrics.

That said, if you have any internet installed at your location, then a work-around might be enabling Wi-Fi Calling if your phones are capable of it, or if they aren't, then purchasing a Network Extender, which uses your internet connection to provide a short-range cellular signal to your home.

@JuanD_VZW: Thanks for getting back to me. This is not a matter of an outage, it's a matter of a coverage weak spot. We typically have to go about a quarter mile to get good coverage again. Data is accessible, although it is slow, typically only one bar and sometimes LTE, sometimes 3G. Are there other options to boost our signal that Verizon could offer (a booster, as Elements suggests, for example)?

@Elements, thanks for the reply as well. Considered a Wi-Fi calling option, but it only works with other phones that have the same protocols, so it would not be reliable. Hoping VZW can come through with a signal booster.

KRIWIN26,

Thanks for checking back in. We always appreciate folks using the community forum. As Elements suggested, the best option would be to first use WiFi calling if you have a capable device and you already have a WiFi router in your home. If you have cabled high speed internet without any WiFi, or if you have a phone that's not capable of WiFi calling, an in-home booster called a Network Extender can be purchased.
