Like I said, if you download one of the many free apps out there you can begin making phone calls over Wi-Fi - no network extender needed.

How does that work when someone calls me ? Is that program going to kick in as long as the phone is on WiFi even if someone calls me instead of me making the connection first ?

I have heard this week that Verizon is going to get WiFi calling.

I think they are close to getting it. I believe it's offered on certain iPhone's. If it's not, you'd have to do a bit of research to find the right app that will work for your needs. I use WhatsApp, but it requires the other person to have the same app and we just talk internationally through it for free.

WiFi calling is available in the Verizon Messages app. Postpaid/Advanced Calling compatible only.
