Dear Verizon,Your trade in program will only give me $5 for my phone. That hardly dents the $30 fee you PROMISED me you would NEVER charge me for an UPGRADE. Of course it's an upgrade. My phone is 2 yrs or more old and you never had trouble with me. The last trouble you had was over TEN years ago when my Ex-wife cancelled my service because the account was then in her name as primary although I was paying the bill because she had NO JOB. That is when I switched to the current phone number ( Feb 2003 ).You promised me that I would NEVER have an upgrade charge as long as I stayed with Verizon. Now you want to change the rules. AND break that promise.Just watch what happens. I see you have MANY, MANY other customers who are also furious about this change. I have no idea how many of them you PROMISED, but I am sure someone will come up with the evidence of that promise and your Company will face a Class Action Lawsuit. Sure, I know the Lawyers get most of the money that will be won in court for FALSE ADVERTISING and Breach of Contract,. But since your representative refused to let me speak to your Legal Department, you will deserve the penalty. Now watch what Breach of Contract and False Advertising means.Sincerely,

You read correctly, chocoverizon! Wireless Workshops are free of charge to all Verizon Wireless customers. You can attend at any time, as much as you like! They are, however, not cost-free events. There are expenses incurred in providing them, along with other services like technical support (both by phone as well as on the internet). These are the things that the upgrade fee helps to finance.

What ever happened to customer service that was INCLUDED in your service instead of charging extra for it?  Seriously, no matter how VZW tries to spin it, the $30 fee, even if its on your "paperwork" is to me a "hidden fee" because its not on the upfront price of the phone ITSELF. I consider it false advertising when you advertise a "free phone" and then turn around and charge the $30 fee. As for your assertion that it "pays for the workshops", we are already paying for that with your outrageously expensive $100/month "share my wallet" plans! I feel that VZW is simply milking its customers of every penny that they can get out of them. As soon as another carrier covers my area, I will switch away from VZW! And believe me, VZW is only hurting themselves in the long run.

Except when they advertise, the $30 fee is listed in the ads.

Now aside for TM who charges full price for phones, who will you switch to. You switch you have an activation fee that is higher than the upgrade fee, the next you renew with your new company, their upgrade fee is higher than VZW's.

Sprint and AT&T are both $36/upgrade.

Last I heard, Sprint is $38 for their upgrade fee.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

A friend of mine using Sprint actually said it was $46 but I did a quick search on google and everything was saying $36. I don't use them personally so I'm not 100%

If necessary, I will go prepaid! ATT and several other carriers now have 4g prepaid. Its only a limited time before VZW has not choice. Also, paying full price for a TM phone probably will save me money anyways because their plans are also WAY CHEAPER than both VZW and ATT. Thats why more and more people are going to TM, or prepaid. VZW can only screw people a few times before they leave for a better value, and anything more than $50- $70/month is NO VALUE!
