I agree with SuzyQ. It can't be that difficult for Verizon to offer the option of having our names attached to caller ID. Seems as though an awful lot of people want it, and their refusal to take action is just poor customer service -- compounded by their stock answer that it's the responsibility of the land line provider, which it is not!

I just switched over from T-Mobile and lost a lot of fucntionality (or have to pay significantly to get - Network Extender which I have had for 2 weeks now and the system at Verizon is down the entire time with no eta) I had with them coming over to Verizon.  This is just one item.  I think we all need to start calling into support and requesting this.  We are the customers, I would hope they would listen.

I have a AT&T phone it is mine own and AT&T dose do display the name & number on a  Caller ID since I just had my fixed on Monday night of this week.

before when ever I called home it would say NOT_AVAIABLE and not my name - for AT&T you need a access to your account online and go to the user infromation and the primary user and that is how you change the name that displays on the caller ID.

My family all have verzion cell phones.  I think verzion should do the same thing.

Add me to the list of people who are very disappointed that Verizon doesn't support outgoing caller ID.  I had this on t-mobile, and took it for granted that Verizon woudl have it as well.  It seems a base-line requirement.

Most of the people I know don't answer a call that shows a generic caller ID.  I know I never do.

One concern they may have is everyone caliing in to have names attached to the secondary phones. The only name VZW knows is the accounts owner.

Now they could make a program to allow the account owner to change them via their MyVerizon account, but considering the lack of urgency in, 'Diligently' (Verizon's word)  fixing the backup assistant, I do not see the option coming anytime soon.

According to a post above, AT&T do allow the primary user to  edit the Caller ID fields.   That somewhat surprises me as I would think there is would be a lot of legal exposure (i.e. people suing the carrier,  even if eventually unsuccessful)  once the receive a call apparently from person X and act on the assumption that person X is really calling.

Even though caller ID spoofing can be done fairly easily, most people do trust the information that appears on the phone, and allowing users to simply change the info online seems to invite trouble!

That said, I agree with all the posters proposing that VzW should allow the user to choose whether or not the account holder's name should show up in Caller ID.  (And then, if someone on a family plan wanted their own name to show up on their line, they could switch to an individual plan, creating more revenue for Verizon!)

Disappointed that Verizon does not allow me to customize how I want my Caller ID to appear.  Called customer service about this and they seemed rather rude about it.  Other companies have the capacity to deal with this issue (including t-mobile, att, vonage), so I'm not sure why verizon is not able to do it and why they're so rude about not doing it.

I am new to verizon and surprised that they can't deal with this request.

Hi mkap,

I apologize if our customer service representative did not provide you with the customer service experience you would expect from Verizon Wireless. Regardless of our ability to provide you with a feature on your service, being rude is not how we expect our customers to be treated.

As explained by our representative on the phone, Caller ID with name is not a feature we offer. I understand that other wireless companies may offer such feature; however, Verizon Wireless does not. Please note that most caller ID devices (for landlines/wireless you call) have the ability to save the numbers for incoming calls and add a specific name, and once they save your name in association with your number on their device/phone they will always see your name when you call them.

I find it interesting that while they (Verizon in the above post) say that "Caller ID with name is not a feature we offer", I have 4 phones on my wireless account.  The one that was the original primary one DOES display my name/number (although it is my son's phone now) while the other 3 only show as "Cell Phone WA" on the CID when they call a landline. And no, the landline phone that shows the name does NOT have any number/CID information stored in it - Verizon is passing the information along ... but only for that one phone, not the other 3 on the same family account.
