No cell service in home

I recently moved to a new area and have little to no cell service in my house. We drop calls regularly and often do not receive calls (the caller goes directly to voicemail). Our cell phones are our main lines of communication - we do not have a landline. We had no troubles with service at our last home, and we do not want to switch providers, but if we can't fix this we may have to investigate that option. My husband has called a number of times already with no improvements to service. Is there anything that can be done?

Here's what I suggest

-Install a free Wi-Fi Calling app on your phone. Once signed up you will then have a new 2nd Wi-Fi phone number

-Forward calls to the new Wi-Fi number using *71 on your phone (that's free too if you have unlimited minutes)

-Incoming calls will then forward to your Wi-Fi number after a few rings (or you can force it manually on your phone)

You can also use *72 to forward calls immediately. Not a good idea as you won't get any calls on your cell phone when away from the house if you forget to turn off call forwarding. (*73)

Jwork980, congrats on the new home. We want to make sure that we do everything we can to get you better service at your new home. I know how important it is to have good working service. What zip code are you in? How far would you say you need to travel before you can get better service? Are you having issues with only phone calls inside the home or with text and data as well? Please provide me with some detials. Looking forward to hearing back from you.

Hi Kevin,

Our zip code is 98359. I am able to send/receive text messages inside the house, but data and calls are both unreliable at best, and nonexistent most of the time. Once we are a few miles from the house, we generally have much better reception. If my husband needs to make a call, he drives to our local community center parking lot which is about 2 miles away. We do have WiFi in the house and are connected to that most of the time.

Thank you!

Jessica

We really appreciate you reaching out and giving us these details. We never want you to be without the best service. I'm not showing any reported issues in the area. Since this is a indoor issue. We would recommend a network extender. Iys a one time purchase and its like a mini cell tower for the home. Learn about it here: http://vz.to/IHRT6h

I've been with Verizon for a long time (because of the great signal strength), so this issue is a bit surprising.  Since we are already paying for cell phone service, I would really hate to have to pay another $250 to receive that signal in our home. We don't have indoor issues anywhere else (grocery store, at work, etc.) Can it really be that our house is a signal black hole?

Jwork980 I certainly understand not wanting to pay more for a service you are already paying for. We can review the account for possible options. Are you able to reach us facebook or Twitter? We can go private in Jive.

You can enable Advanced Calling on your devices and use Messages+ to make and receive calls and texts over Wi-Fi.

Nowhere in your agreement does it sate that Verizon is responsible to make your service work inside of any structure. It is possible that your home "is a signal black hole". There are too many factors and if you have to travel 2 miles to get service, my guess is that your home is outside of the range of the closest cell tower.

You do have the option of a network extender and they really do help but they come at a cost.

The choice is always yours. You do have some options available.

Just know that Verizon is doing what they have promised. It is not their fault that your home is not in the coverage area or blocks the signal from reaching your devices.

Thanks to Verizon customer support for working with me via Twitter! We are going to try out some wifi calling and if that doesn't fit the bill, we will get a signal extender.
