New phone requires voicemail setup

I've been with Verizon since the Cingular Wireless days. I just recently upgraded from a Droid Maxx to a Droid Turbo. When I try to access my voice mail it wants to me to set it up. Why do I need to setup my voicemail when it was already working with my old phone? Am I gonna have to go through all that just to get voice mail again?

That makes no sense.  I've changed phones multiple times and have never had to setup my voice mail again.  The only thing I can think of is that the new phone isn't linked with your phone number, so you might want to check that.

Side note:  Didn't Cingular get merged into AT&T?

I know we can solve this mystery . I have the Turbo myself & when I first got it, the voicemail is a bit different than my prior phone. The Turbo uses visual voicemail primarily. Lets get you connected with your voicemail box again. Can you try calling your own phone number on your cell phone? Once you hear the recording, press # to interrupt it & enter your passcode when prompted. Are you able to access your voicemail again?

They bought AT&T Wireless from what I read. They just changed the name to AT&T Wireless

When I dial *86 I'm asked to setup my voicemail. I did press # but it says incorrect key was pressed. I will not pay for visual voicemail. I rather do without then pay for visual voicemail.
