My service is free and I use both smoke signals to speak to neighbors & tin cans & string. The only problem I run into is when the county has a burn ban which means I can only use the tin cans and string until the feral cats & squirrels start messing around. All in all, I'm happy. (This is a joke intended to make people laugh or smile, my apologies to people that have a hard time detecting humor and/or sarcasm)

I Don't think we'll be using smoke signals in the tinderbox called Califoria.

Ouch! Good point!! I wish we actually had a better and more enforced burn ban here. My neighbor tried to choke us all out yesterday with what smelled like burning industrial toxicants!

I'm sure after the 13th when these new prices take effect we are gonna see the forums "on fire" with complaints and questions.

Yes, I bet.  When people finally find out there is no such thing as a 99 cent phone.

I actually love the idea of these new plans. It takes away the factor of the hidden cost of a phone within a 2yr plan. This is so much more transparent and Verizon should be commended for taking this step. Going to be growing pains for many though that are used to the status quo and reluctant to change.

I Like that part, I think the charges didnt make any moves to be more competitive in the higher data ranges though.  If I wanted to switch, it would be much more expensive.

Yes, I definitely agree there too. I believe their higher data plans could have been more generous. That is where I see lots of complaints forthcoming. (Myself, I will never be able to afford anything beyond their absolute lowest tier of data Smiley Sad)

According to this article:  Verizon kills off service contracts, smartphone subsidies - CNET

"Once the plans go into effect, customers on current More Everything plans can switch to the new options to take advantage of the additional data. But if a customer is on a contract, the person would have to continue paying $40 for the access fee until the contract is up. At that point, Verizon will automatically take them down to $20."

Still no mention of the monthly access fee for basic phones in that article, nor have any articles I've seen to-date mentioned how customers on older plans such as the Nationwides will be addressed.

The press release does have the sentence "Current customers can keep their existing plan or move to the new plan, with some restrictions." that could indicate customers who still have a Nationwide Plan would be unaffected. I'm not entirely convinced with so little information.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

So, anyone know what this means for existing customers with UDP?
