Is it possible to use a landline telphone off of your cell phone signal?

I don't have a landline, only a mobile service, but someone told me that I could use a landline type phone by using a special kind of adapter that converts the signal into a landline signal.  has anyone done this?  if so, what type of adapter do you use?

I think that would be called Verizon Wireless Home Phone Service.

Wireless Home Phone is an analog telephone adapter that provides you with high-quality, home phone service using our wireless network. Simply plug your existing home telephone into the Wireless Home Phone unit, complete the over-the-air service activation (*228), and make calls. You also have the option of keeping your existing home phone number.

Note: Wireless Home Phone includes calling to any US number.

Motorola Z3 on the Verizon network.

What is your reason for this? If it is for something which requires a landline such as a security system/fax/etc... there are some things which Verizon's Wireless Home Phone is not compatible. You should check into this before you make any purchase.
