Is calling voicemail (*86) free, or does it cost minutes?

When I call my voicemail from my cellphone (using *86 or speed dial 1) does it cost me minutes, or is it free? I recently switched over to using Google Voice for my voicemail and I'd like to know if I'm paying for my calls to my voicemail before I spend a significant amount of time listening to my messages. Thanks for any help.

Strange as it sounds, calling voicemail uses peak minutes if you call during the day.  It isn't counted as IN network!!  Voicemail does use your plan minutes  :smileyindifferent:

That's disappointing, but it's good to know. Thanks for the quick answer.

Suzy, I have wondered the same for awhile now.

In looking at my last invoice. Whether I called my number or *86 it states 'plan allow'. What does that mean??? These calls were made from the US Virgin Islands St Croix, which I never was charged a per minute roaming charge for any call in or out.  Nor a texting charge.

I believe doing the following will not use any of your airtime:

Call your cellphone number from any other phone. During the recorded message (either the automated message or your own personal message), press the '#' key. You will then hear a prompt to enter your password. Now you can proceed to listen to your voicemail.

 deducted from your monthly bucket.

That connection will use your airtime - unless it is from another Verizon cell phone OR a number on your F&F list.   During the recorded message (either the automated message or your own personal message), press the '#' key. You will then hear a prompt to enter your password. Now you can proceed to listen to your voicemail.

Both of these methods use your minutes, unless the number you are calling your cell phone from is free (another Verizon phone, or a F&F number)  - that's the only workaround.  Simply calling your voicemail will use your minutes, unless you call after 9 PM or on a weekend.

I always thought it was the star key to enter the voice mail when calling from another phone.
