I'm LEAVING Verizon Wireless as I've never dealt w/ such incompetence

Lemme ask you all a question, if you move, and your cell no longer gets reception, and your roommate (who also has Verizon) also has the same problem, what should you do?

Well the answer is to buy a Verizon Booster.  Bad news, it's very expensive (about $300).  Even worse news, it doesn't work (often).  Even more horrible news, when Verizon wants to ship you a replacement, they charge you for that one too, and then they ship at will, and never when promised.

So...you'd expect discounts, apologies, and a heap of assistance, right?  Nope.  Worst customer service, horrible problem solving capabilities, and just a waste of time.  Lucky for me, and for all of you readers, there's an answer.  Now, everyone carries iPhones, so it's no longer a AT&T or Verizon question, it's a 'who is the best carrier' question.  And sadly, Verizon is not that winner.

Word of advice, when your two years are up, switch to a different carrier.  Trust me.

Pam - It's Mike, not John.

And I'm happy to announce that my wife and I have left Verizon Wireless...as nobody from this board contacted us as described above (twice), and we have since joined AT&T Wireless.

The service is much better, our cell phones finally work in our house, and the service is very strong throughout Los Angeles.

I had AT&T 3 years ago and it was much weaker, but apparently all the recent literature and articles are true, they've improved their services BIG time!

To all of you on the board who are sick of your Verizon cell phones not working, try AT&T.  They work great on the new iPhone 5s!!!

And...I'm off the board and officially done with Verizon.  Good luck and good night:)

Yeah you can buy that extender and go through the hassle you went through or you simply leave verizon and find a service that does work at your new location. Please don't blame Verizon for you moving out of a service area. That was your decision, Verizon does not guarantee service in all areas. No service does.

However if you cannot get verizon to let you go early termination fee wise, you must factor in the costs to leave which must play on do you want cellular coverage or headaches. Maybe you can get a cheap cell plan at a known provider that works.

Good Luck

Verizon doesn't give a crap, their customer service is horrible, we have had the same issue moving to Puerto Rico, the sad thing about its they told me if I was in the military they would let me out of my contract, but since I am not they can do nothing for me,  Besides i don't get any reception i can use half of the features on my plan because of the service I do receive.  Of course I can get some reception if I walk outside my house........ over the next 12 months my entire family's contracts will be up, My house hold is 4 phones, my side of the family is 7 phones then my wires side of the family has 14 phones.  T Mobile or ATT here comes 25 contracts!!!

I have to blame Verizon as I just moved 12 miles within my city, the city of Los Angeles.  And I live next to one of the busiest intersections in the city (therefore in the country), on flat land (not in the mountains), and in a brand new building (so it's not an old brick-and-mortar).  If Verizon can't handle LA, that's kinda scary.  You'd think the whole 'having 13 million people living here' would really make them focus in on delivering A+ service to maximize their subscription base...no?

I'm well past my 2 yr contract as I've been a loyal customer.  But, the beauty of competition is that there's always another dance partner to be found.  So i've called to have my number released, and am having my fiance do the same thing today, and the shopping for new service begins.  I've heard that AT&T has gotten a lot better, more towers, and even bought $1.9 billion in bandwith from Verizon, so I'm curious to learn more.

You would think LA would have better coverage. But when I am down in New York City my coverage goes good some places and bad in others. Wall Street spotty coverage, Broadway pretty good coverage, and Times Square I get great service. And NYC is very populated.

In your building it could be the materials in the building blocking your signal, could be the fact congestion is causing your problems, could be electronic devices in your home or neighbors dwellings. Could be many factors.

I would advise you test out the AT&T and T-Mobile services via asking your friends. Don't get service and find its worse than Verizon at your home. Don't sign any contracts. And you realize there will be start up costs when using another cell service. Cost of phones, plan costs etc.

Good Luck

@mikegoldberg27,

You definitely deserve to the have the best service possible, especially in places where you frequent the most!

I want to help keep you with VZW. Where are you located (zip) and what phone do you have? Are you having issues with voice or data? Are you only experiencing these issue while inside your home or does it happen outside and around your home area?

I can definitely take a look at the coverage in that area to see what's going on and how we can improve your service.

Hey John - Voice and data…as my phone says 'searching' when I'm inside my building. The signal returns, and strengthens, once we exit the building, and walk away from it (100 feet plus).

I'm in the 91403 area code, so Northern Los Angeles.

Both my fiancé and I have iPhones. I have the 4s, and she has the 4. We were going to upgrade in the next few days, but now we're holding as we want to be judicious about whom we sign a new 2 year contract with.

Hi John,

Verizon of course! Congrats on your upgrade. Let's bring your searching to an end.  It's important to have a properly working device. Has your phone ever worked in this building? Are any other VZW users experiencing this issue in your building?

Thanks,
