Why is Verizon making us pay to upgrade our phone. I mean $30 to turn on a new phone. Aren't they making more than enough money off us. They

take services away and charge more. I mean they use to be the best and now they are like the rest. I have been a member for 14 yrs >Comment deleted< I think it is time to look at AT&T to see if they can do better.

There are plenty of threads on this. Please use the search feature.

And you can look at ATT, Sprint, Tmobile. They all charge upgrade fees, and if you switch to them, they also charge an ACTIVATION FEE. Which means, no matter how you look at it, you will pay a fee no matter where you go.

Sure they can since they charge $36 to upgrade your phone. And they've been doing it longer than Verizon has. So go ahead switch to at&t and pay the $36 activation fee and in 2 years when you upgrade pay $36 for the upgrade fee.

I wonder do at&t, sprint and t-mobile customers whine about the upgrade fees they have to pay and threaten to leave?

Sure, some whine, some threaten to leave, and some DO leave. Just like here. BUT, they are often much more gracious about rescinding these activation and upgrade fees in order to keep new and existing customers. I can speak from personal experience on this regard. I was having trouble with AT&T service, the CSR just took the activation fee off my bill "just to be nice." I read here, however, more often than not, that Verizon's response to removal of these fees is "I'm sorry, nothing I can do."

(Why should we?? Oink. We're the phone company.)

Sprint has been enforcing their $36 activation fee since September of 2011. Used to be easy to reverse, now it's like pulling eye teeth. Even for all those "loyal" customers. Sorry, won't be waived, wanna cancel? Here is your ETF. Only thing that "loyalty" means these days is what people have for their favourite sports team.
