I know  Im not the only one getting hit with huge amount of data usage for just basic web surfing.  Upgraded from 3g in feb went from using 4.5 gb a month to 15 to 22 gb! tech support is a joke, keep blaming me saying 4g uses much more data!! yea right who the hell would want it if you burn up 4 times the data for the same usage? Been getting the run arounf for 5 months now ! on my 4th jetpack (890L) tried numorous pcs, has anyone had any luck getting this resolved?  am currently filing complaint with fcc,

sorry, but they are right. if you surf for 30 minutes on LTE you will burn through much more data than surfing for 30 minutes on 3g. you're downloading at anywhere from 3 to 30 times faster so you are going through MUCH more content (data) in the same 30 minutes.

ok so we just pay our $130 a month overage fees and like it huh?  then why is everyone complaining?  funny cause a friend of mine has same jetpack and spends twice as much time online as me and uses all of 2.8gb a month!  if i burn 1,5 gb just checking e-mail and facebook for 40 min i dont think thats normal...done with verizon!  going with web on the go $45 a month.. this is.ridiculous!

How many devices are you connecting to it, are you streaming any videos or the flash games from facebook, any video chat, videos, anything may help. Also check out the data calculator to get more of a stable idea of usage

I think Verizon's jetpacks have data overage issues. It might be on a unit by unit basis, but I'm thinking that the modems don't segregate the data that's YOURS from the packets that belong to everybody else and thereby accumulate other peoples' data which is ultimately discarded to your account, causing the overages, and Verizon doesn't want to take responsibility to look into this with the network and OEM engineers if in fact this is the case.

Another possibility is that others are latching onto your jetpack either via broadcast SSID and default password (should be changed) or spoofing the device's mac address and using your connection that way.

Of course, there is always the possibility that you are in fact actually USING the data depending on what you are doing online. Audio and video streams in particular use up prodigious amounts of data.  Facebook might use more than you realize. Downloading attachments in email might also eat it up.

look...there may be an issue with your jetpack, but all i'm saying is that you WILL go through more data on 4g?LTE than you did on 3g. it's simple math. 10mbps times 30 minutes is a lot more than 1mbps times 30 minutes.

This is ONLY true if you go to more pages over the same time period.

Personally, I did not see my data usage increase when I upgraded from a Droid X to a 4G phone. My usage basically stayed the same. I was just able to finish my surfing quicker.

Just because I have a faster connection does not equate to wanting to visit more websites.

Of course, if you click on a new link as soon as a webpage has loaded without even reading what you have loaded, you will go through more data. Not sure why this would be the case in actual usage, though. If you don't want to read what is on the page you have downloaded, why surf to it in the first place?

true, but that's why i use time as a reference. if you do the same things, just in a shorter period of time, then the data won't increase. however, if you "actively" spend 30 minutes on 4g and 30 minutes on 3g, you'll use more on 4g.....unless you are just sitting with a page or email open, and not really surfing the web. i'm assuming the user is doing more in the same amount of time. if not, then no....it shouldn't increase. i just see a lot of people make comments like "i spend about an hour every night online......yada yada yada." an hour surfing 4g will eat up a lot more than an hour surfing 3g.

The way i understand it is 4g loads the same amount of data as 3g , only faster-  like if you drive 70mph from point A to point B, you get there alot faster than if you drive 30 mph, but its still the same distance.  if you burn through4x the data as 3g just because its 4g who would want it? that would be a ripoff.  like i said my friend does wtice as much online as i do but barely uses 3gigs a month. I go through my 5 g allowance in2 or 3 days of basic surfing.

this makes the most sense of anything ive heard so far.  so irritating why verizon wont acknowledge this and work with me instead of insisting i must be downloading movies, music, games etc. when all im doing is basic surfing ( e-mail,banking,ebay,facebooketc) NO DOWNLOADING! im not stupid i realize certain activities use up more data.when i use up my whole months gb allowance in three days obviously something is seriously wrong!! do you know how to change password on jetpack? one thing i havent tried yet.  I have frozen my account and switched to web on the go from walmart, i can stay online for hours and hours and barely use 200mb !!!......thanx
