First, you need to make sure of what model you have. VX8000 is not the model number for the LG Chocolate. So remove your battery and on the back of the phone there should be a sticker and at the top it says "Model Number". It should be LG VX8500 or LG VX8550, depending on what version you have.
Then, as suggested, go into the manual programming on the phone and change it to random number. If you have the first generation of Chocolates, the VX8500, you press Menu and then 0 (Zero) to get into the programming menu. Or if you have the 2nd generation, VX8550, you press # + # + 7+7+6+4+7+2+6 +8+5+5+0 + Send.
The security code for each programming menu is "000000" (six zeros). Once in press 1 for service programming then it will display your ESN number, click OK once and it should say Phone Number (MDN), change this part to something random and click ok again, then you'll see Phone Number (MIN) , change this number also. After that you're done so just keep hitting ok or "next" until you get to where it says "exit". Once you exit your phone will restart and it should display only the random number you entered in.
Good luck.
