How does my contract end?

When I log into My Verizon it tells me my contract ends 10/13/09.  I was just wondering, does it just end or do I need to do something?  If I chose to continue it what would I have to do?  If I wanted to let it end and keep my number for a new (probably verizon) account under a different name what would I have to do?  Does it automatically renew?

Hi again.   You cancel a month-to-month plan by simply calling them and telling them to end the service.   As for the name issue now I see.   This shouldn't be a problem.   However, you are going to need your mom for part of this because she is the Primary Account Owner.   All she needs to do is call them and relinquish the account to you.   Now you are going to have to be "credit worthy" as Verizon will only establish service with people who have established credit.    However, there are even ways around this as you can go with a Pre-Pay setup if you have not yet established credit on your own.   There should be no problem in you keeping the phone number either.

Hello and welcome!   When the contract ends . . . it just ends.    Your obligation actually ends but your service continues at that point on the same plan you're on but just silently switches to a month-to-month basis.    You are free to leave Verizon without any Early Termination Fee's (ETF).   It does not automatically renew for another two years or anything like that.

The only thing I didn't quite understand in what you said was something about wanting to keep your number for a new account under a different name.   I'm not sure what you mean by that.   When the contract ends you continue with that number.   You're eligible for a New Every Two phone device offer at contract end (actually four months before the contract end date I believe now).   At contract end you can sign up for another contract with the same number.   I just don't know what you mean by under a new name.

Thanks for the quick response.  How do I cancel a month-to-month plan?

Also the different name thing is because the plan is under my mom's name but the only phone left on it is mine, when it ends I'd like to get my own plan but use the same number if that makes sense.

Hello and welcome!   I ususally go to My Verizon . . . My Services (tab) . . . click on My Phone and on the right you'll see a sliding scale of when you're eligible for a new every two update and below that it has the contract ending date :smileyhappy:

Log onto My Verizon, click the "My Servies Tab" then select my plan on the drop down menu. At the top of that page under your number and your calling plan, it lists your contract expiration date.

Hope this helped.

Hey ccoupe . . . I don't know if you knew or not but if you can find somebody willing to take over the remaining portion of your contract then all you both need to do is call Verizon and so long as the other person is credit worthy, Verizon will let you out early with no fees and allow the other party to assume the remaining portion of the contract.   They don't readily publish this but it's a fact :smileyhappy:
