Frequently droping wireless signal

Newbie

I am frequently dropping my wireless signal.  I suspect my Actiontec MI424WR Rev 1 router that came with my FIOS system may be bad.  Is it okay to directly replace the Actiontec with a Netgear Range Max dual-band Wireless N Router  WNDR3400 that I have seen excellent reviews on?  Will I be able to get all the functionality of my FIOS sytstem with it (i.e. On Demand etc).  Thanks.......
