i live in a mountainous area, and service for me is dependent on what direction i am facing, can any one help figure out what the difference is?

It is basically the same network. The EDVO is the older version of Verizon Wireless's 3G network.
I don't know what the technical differences are though.

my understanding (shaky at best) is that eHRPD is what enables LTE to hand off to EVDO gracefully, but otherwise is the same.
