4 Towers within 4 miles but bad reception

I have done a search and there are 4 cell towers within 4 miles of my new home but I can only get one bar of 3G and sometimes no service at all.  I love Verizon and have been with them for years but I am considering AT&T to get better reception.  I now live in a rural area and cell is the best option for home internet so I must have dependable service.

Question:  can Verizon lease from towers nearby?  Or is this worth pursuing?  Should I just take the path of least resistance and switch carriers?

Sounds like you may need a new provider. You could try a 4g signal booster, but it may not be enough to provide satisfactory results if you never see 4g near your home.

Michael-Mc, let's open up the floor for some additional ideas. If you have an iPhone or any of these models http://www.verizonwireless.com/smartphones/wificalling/ , let us introduce wifi calling. It would rely on your home internet connection to make calls.

WiFi calling would be a great idea but if you had truly read my message you

would understand that Verizon wireless would be my primary provider for

internet WiFi. I intend to use a hotspot. So what now?

I think you already know the answer to this. If you can't get home internet service from a true home internet provider then you need to switch wireless providers or check into wifi only offers from a different carrier if you don't really want to end your service with Verizon. Unless you can wait it out and see if things improve.

Yes. I think I knew the answer all along but was hoping to open up the

possibility of Verizon leasing access to one of the nearby towers. I truly

hate to leave Verizon but this sounds like the best option for now. I

don't think satellite service is for me. Cellular wireless is the best

option. If I use a hotspot, economically it makes sense to share that

data with my phones.

Just curious as to why you feel like satellite service isn't for you? Depending on how much data you plan to actually use at home (and of course your data plan) you might find that relying solely on your wireless data could be a costly mistake. If you have unlimited data you don't have much to worry about but if you have a limited amount of data and you plan to do things like stream you might find yourself out of data very quickly. I honestly think if you have a way to get home internet service you really should consider it. Personal choice of course.

The satellite providers now limit data much like wireless. I would buy

blocks of data at a monthly fee. But with "up to" 12 mb/s speed. Which

really means half that on average. With wireless I can get a predictable

14 mb/s. There are no other options here. No DSL or cable. The trade off

of living a peaceful rural life on a beautiful river. AT&T will give

unlimited data on wireless if I bundle with satellite TV. But won't allow

hotspot or tethering. Unlimited only on phones. Separate plan for

hotspot..... kinda cheesy. That's an example of why I want to stay with

Verizon. But I probably will suck it up and convert....

Yes satellite internet providers limit your internet and you get so many GB per month....BUT, they do offer LATE AT NIGHT unmetered internet -- which is UNLIMITED during those times.  Check out Exede Satellite Internet.
