If you are having problems texting/calling just one person, what is the exact message you are getting. To know what the message is, will be helpful in determing if it is truly your device, VZW network or the person you are trying to contact.
Regardless, the best troubleshooting steps you can do on your own, would be to reprogram your device by dialing *228 + SEND from your phone. Also, try powering the phone off, removing the battery for 3-5 seconds, and then replacing and turning back on. Other than these steps, the other options to ensure it is your device or not is to manually program which can be done by contacting Customer Support (1-800-922-0204) or visiting a local Verizon Wireless Communications store.
