how do I send a message from a computer to a verizon cell phone?

I want to send a message to my son's verizon cell phone, and would like to know what are the address I need to type on my computer, his number and what? @txt.verizon.net? please help.

SuziQ..... is it limited to 160 characters when emailing TO: mynumber@vtext.com?  I was not sure?
