Some of my contacts are not receiving messages with the new Verizon Messages +. One difference I can see is that, on some contacts, when I type a text, it has "Chat" next to it, while other contacts say "SMS." I just downloaded the newest update to Verizon Messages (this problem started after the last update), but it did not fix the problem. Has anyone got an answer or solution?

Which "last update" do you have? There's been three in three days. Today's version is 6.4.3; one user has reported that today's version corrected their particular issue.
I downloaded 6.4.3. It did not fix the issue for me. (I updated and restarted my phone).

Yes, I just tried that and it works! Thanks. I did get a response from Verizon, and they said they are working on it.
