Me and my husband switched over to Verizon from Alltel recently and got new phones and for about 2 & 1/2 weeks every morning between 3 and 4 am we get weird text that has the number 800-010-001000 and the message is unreadable it looks like someone is texting me with wingding's font, I'm really tired from being waken every morning, and the lady at the Verizon office couldn't help me, and I tried to block the number but it didn't work. Please help if you can.

Very annoying! Have you set up Spam Controls on My Verizon at www.verizonwireless.com? You need to register one of the mobile numbers first. Then once signed in from the Overview page on the right side under Quick Links click on Set Usage Controls. On the left side of the page under Verizon Safeguards click on Spam Controls, then click on the tab for Internet Spam Blocking and check off the boxes for email and web at the bottom of the page under Message Blocking Preferences and click the Apply button to save your changes.

If you still get these, then the only sure fire way to stop them would be to change your mobile numbers. Some phones, however, do have the ability to restrict incoming and outgoing messages/calls to your contact list. On VZW phones its called Restrictions and can be found under Phone Settings in the Settings and Tools menu.

me and my husband just started to receive them yesterday. at midnight and then at 10 pm. we also were alltel customers. can't spam block them because they don't have a valid phone number and they figured out how to block the web address also...had to have verizon open a remedy ticket up for the issue so they are research it.  the body of the text message was blank on mine, outside of maybe some garble charecters.

If you don't use texting at all then I would recommend blocking all messaging all together. Incoming and outgoing.

Look on your phone in the settings-->phone settings-->security-->default last 4 digits of your phone number-->restrictions-->enter in 4 digit number again

Now if you find restrictions go into messaging. Then you can block all incoming text messages. Later on you can choose to unlock it again.
