Voice mail fax option?

I've done some reading on the internet regarding receiving a fax via cell phone voice mail and printing it out on a fax machine and such.

From my understanding, this is an option with VZW with either the Visual Voice Mail or the Enhanced Voice Mail.  Well, I don't think Visual Voice Mail is available for me....either my phone or area or something.  I don't see that option in "Messaging".

But, what about Enhanced Voice Mail.  How much extra, if any, does it costs?  I've seen some posts on various places on the internet about people having that option for no extra charge.

See, I don't receive many faxes.  But, there may be times when I'm out and about and need to receive a fax and I'd like the option of the fax going to voice mail for me to print later.

Can anyone give me any insight on this?

Thanks!

Enhanced Voicemail costs $4.95/month, and includes this on TOP of what you get already with basic voicemail:

1.)  Call Return - Customer checking voice mail from handset can place a live call to the caller and then return to the voice mail menu to continue checking voice mail messages.

2.)  Group Lists and Distribution Lists - Customer can send or forward the same message to a group of Verizon Wireless voice mail users in their market.

3.) Extended Message Lengths and Retention Periods.  (2 minute greeting instead of 1 minute, 40 day retention instead of 21, and 5 minute message length instead of 3 minutes)

4.) Personal Operator - Subscriber can add an option to their personal greeting, such as "For immediate response, dial 0"; caller who presses 0 is transferred to a number predetermined by the subscriber.

5.)Subscriber can accept fax into voice mail and retrieve the fax by entering the 10-digit number of the fax machine where the fax should be printed.

So it sounds like your best option is Enhanced Voicemail, but would cost 4.95/month, but would definitely get you the ability  you're looking for on your device.

What is the difference between Enhanced Voice Mail and Visual Voice Mail besides the price.

I don't think I have the option for Visual Voice Mail.(Is it by area, by phone or what?)  It is $2.99/mth while the enhanced is $4.95/mth.

I'd like to know the main differences.  The only extra option I'd like to have is that receiving fax ability, which seems to be available on either.

Visual voicemail is only capable on a limited amount of devices currently such as but not limited to the Voyager, env2, blackberry storm.

The main attributes of it are that it allows you to view your voicemail on your phones LCD Display with an archive of the messages. This eliminates the need to actually CALL your voicemail when you can simply see the dates/times/numbers that called you. Some features are that you can save these messages to a memory card or computer for archiving as opposed to just having them get deleted.

The reason I recommend enhanced is that enhanced voicemail gives you the fax access you're looking for where visual voicemail does not.

Enhanced voicemail would also give you the  personal operator  that offers to forward the call to a direct extension, which is great for business use, where as Visual voicemail does not.

Basically, visual voicemail is really useful if you want to save the time of having to call and listen to the voicemail and listen through all of them to get to one where you can simply see and sort them on your phone's screen and save them accordingly. This would explain the price difference. Visual voicemail is a convenience factor where Enhanced voicemail gives you "more bang for your buck" and is capable on virtually any device where Visual Voicemail is (currently) somewhat limited on availability as it is a fairly new feature.

Hmm...I'm sorry but I'm still sort of confused.

According to

http://support.vzw.com/faqs/Features%20and%20Optional%20Services/faq_voice_mail.html?grp=7&faq=1

I can't get it to link right...so copy/paste I guess

Visual Voice Mail does include fax and personal operator.

They need to have one of those comparison charts that compares Basic, Enhanced and Visual Voice.  It seems like I did see something on the VZW website regarding enhanced and now I can't seem to find it.

My apologies. It does in fact include the fax and personal operator. So honestly, the really only differences are in the retention time and greeting times. It depends on what device you have though to determine if it's capable for Visual Voicemail.

Currently the capable devices: LG Versa, LG Env2, Lg Voyager, Blackberry Storm, Samsung renown, Nokia Intrigue, Motorola Krave, Samsung Omnia.

If not, you'd have to go with enhanced voicemail.

That's ok....I'm just trying to sort through the confusion....lol

I have the LG Chocolate 3 so I guess it's not eligible for the Visual Voice Mail.

I was told by a VZW rep that I can view a Visual Voice Mail fax as a TIFF on my Storm. This doesn't seem to be the case. When I access a fax on VVM, it just offers the option to forward it to a fax machine or view it on the fax I'm calling from. Any thoughts?

So if you have to enter the number of the fax machine to print it what would be the sense in paying $4.95 a month when you could just have the fax go directly to your fax machine since you already pay for a home phone line?  We dropped our home phone line so for the few faxes we have to send a year I found a free online service that gave us a number to use through e-mail and so far it works fine.  Mary
