Again! I am not trying to view anyone elses texts but my own and like I said I need them for personal reasons, and no it may never come available, but instead of criticizing and instantly thinking I am in the wrong, you need to look at the bigger picture or think about if for whatever reason may come about that you would need a copy of this information how would you feel? I was posting this in hope of hel but I see I made a mistake and everyone thinks I am the bad guy but if you only knew the whole story you would feel sorry for me rather than judge or criticize.  So the next time you are in a situation that you feel you might need help with remember how you reacted to mine. Thank you all. I did not have one person inquire as to what it was about or sypathize  it was instant judgement.

Never said you were a bad person. I am truly sorry if I sounded like that in my post(s). I do know how you feel though. Someone text me saying they had a good time with me in San Francisico. Enjoyed it with me. Then by mistake I deleted the message last week. Sucks! Now I can't get it back. :smileysad:  Oh well, at least I remember what it said. It is stored somewhere after all.

You can get text messages for a while after they have been sent it just takes a subpoena to Verizons legal department first.

My son had a legal problem and the proof to save him was in text messages sent to him that he had deleted. It took a subpoena to get them from Verizon. If they had still been on the phone they would not have been accepted because they could be altered, but from the vaults of Verizon they are ok.   The account is in my name, he is a young adult , I have no right to his private messages. When I have had "important" texts in the past of my own. I just forwarded them to my e-mail

Honestly, most on here would not ask the situation. We feel if you wanted us to know, you would share. On some phones, such as mine. I have downloaded a program that can save contacts, emails, texts and such and can retrieve them if needed. My phone also allows me to print text message conversations to my printer via a bluetooth connection with my printer.

But if they are deleted and you have cleaned out your deleted text folder (They may still be in that folder), then unforetunately the texts are gone.

So each text a phone sends gets stored in verizon's computers?  That is a lot when you think of all the people that text and the young ones that text a lot.   How far back can they go to retrieve one?  Interesting to hear about someone that actually had to do it.  Mary

Yes they are stored on Verizon's servers and there is a time limit. They never told us how long. And it does take a subpoena

I can definitely sympathize with you.  I need to be able to get a copy of several of my texts for court purposes.  And the police will not get involved because it is a civil issue.  I pay the bill and it's on my phone.  It's legal to record a conversation between yourself and another individual without telling them because one person knows the call is being recorded.  As far as an invasion of privacy, if you send something in writing via text, you should expect that it could be used against you.  How ignorant to think that it couldn't or wouldn't.

In some states it is legal and in other states it actually is illegal. Like when I was using the Spoof feature and wanted to record a call....I was prompted with the message "It is illegal under law of numerous states to record a telephone call without informing the other party that the call is being recorded. Before using recording capability of Spoof, you should determine whether it is legal in your state where you are calling from & state where the party you are calling is located to record the call without informing the called party......etc."
