Texting charges from Canada

My question is I have a shared Nationwide plus Canada with one phone in Canada and one here. If my goddaughter, who is in Canada, texts me here in the States, is there a charge?

Texting to and from Canada won't charge you.

Not according to a Supervisor I just talked to today. Of course the supervisor I talked to on Dec 24 stated what you just stated. Apparently the NEW Nationwide plus Canada Shared data program has unlimited texting but anyone on the OLD Nationwide plus Canada Shared doesn't have texting and therefore the charge is .45 to receive and .40 to send...according to what I was told today. Of course the Supervisor I talked to yesterday said that there was no charge for texting under the Nationwide plus Canada Shared plan. So far four Verizon employees (including two supervisors) have indicated that there are no charges for texting to and from Canada under the Nationwide plus Canada The website www.verizon.com also says in BIG RED LETTERS 'no charge for messaging to and from Canada...).  On the other hand, three employees, including one supervisor and another Verizon website, have said there charges apply when Canada and Mexico are involved. All this to say, different people and different websites have different stories so I've blocked texting. The inconsistencies and end result can be quite costly.

I will say that all of the Verizon people I've talked to so far have been polite. My recommendation is to be diligent about monitoring Verizon accounts. My experience is what I've been told and what I see on the different Verizon sites is not necessarily what I've gotten...and 21 days to straighten things out (if it is) does try ones patience.

Neither the Nationwide plans nor the Share Everything plans charged for texting to or from Canada. The older Nationwide plus Canada plans didn't have an option for unlimited texting unless you had it as a line level feature so unless you opted for the (now retired) $5/250 message or $10/1000 message package, you were paying $0.20/message sent/received but it would have been the same if it was a domestic message. You didn't need to have the plus Canada option to be charged domestic rates for texting though, it was only for minutes. The Share Everything plan includes unlimited messaging so there wouldn't be a charge for it regardless of if you went with the plus Canada/Mexico option. The older Nationwide plus Mexico plans did have the option to keep unlimited messaging but messages sent/received while in Mexico were charged at the international rate.

Thank you, HappyHelper,

Like I said. Different stories from different people, including different quotes for different rates, now. Yes I do have the old Nationwide Plus Canada. No it I didn't have the texting part because I was told it cost per text at the time I got it so as far as the $5 or $10 thing, that's news...and apparently a mute point. As for the new Nationwide Plus Canada Data 1000 plan, again I encourage people to ask a LOT of questions before switching to it and document who, when, where and what is being told to them and make sure the Verizon person (s) include detailed notes of the conversation. I have found that the answers to my questions varied depending on who I talked to, AND, as I've said, on the websites. Examples 1 and 2 Below.  NOTE  "DID YOU KNOW" in Example 1.  Note in Example 2 referencing the same plan under My Messaging Plan.  They say the complete opposite. I have brought this to the attentions of a 'higher up Supervisor' who agrees this does confuse customers/clients. If Verizon can't get a website right, how can they expect their employees to get things right? I stand by my previous posts.

EXAMPLE 1:Canada & Mexico Plans1000 shared minutes for:Long distance1 from the U.S. to Canada/Mexico.Calls while in Canada/Mexico to numbers in the U.S., Mexico or Canada (coverage not available everywhere).Text messages while in Mexico are 50¢ per message sent (per recipient) and 5¢ per message received.Multimedia messages while in Mexico are billed the same as when you're in the U.S., plus global data charges. See below for data rates.DID YOU KNOW:Unlimited Messaging from the U.S. to and from Canada and to Mexico is included in your Share Everything Plan.

I guess I'm just not seeing the confusing part...

Read these two statements about the same plan.  The first says Unlimited Messaging included in the Canada shared plan.

DID YOU KNOW:

Unlimited Messaging from the U.S. to and from

Canada and to Mexico is included in your Share Everything Plan.

This Statement says it's not included and rates apply.

Usage in

Canada/Mexico:

·

Shared Messaging Not Applicable/Additional Rates

Apply

  They contradict each other.

The first one says to and from Canada is unlimited and to Mexico is unlimited. The second one says you have unlimited messages so shared messaging is not applicable. I'll admit the second part of the last statement fails to mention that the additional rates apply only to messaging from Mexico. But I still wouldn't consider it confusing if you read the first part.

HappyHelper,

Perhaps I can explain it differently... ie. SAME PLAN.

The first says texting is Free to and from Canada. (on one website)

The Second says shared usage doesn't apply and there will be charges. (on another website)

Now, after being on the phone for an hour with a Verizon supervisor yesterday and having her look at both these websites and the verbage, she is in complete agreement that it is a confusing message. After being with a local Supervisor for over an hour the day before and showing him the two sites, he is in agreement that the message is confusing. I believe you will note that in the second message it is under the heading of Usage in Canada/Mexico which would be interpreted as the rates apply to Canada/Mexico. Now, if I ONLY read the first part and didn't read the fine print, then if/when rates are applied I would be told I should have read the fine print. When you indicate that a part 'fails to mention', that clearly means something is left out. The 'something' is an important part of the plan.

Ok.

Fact remains, texting to and from Canada, with or without a plus Canada plan, on the Nationwide plans or the Share Everything plans, is billed as domestic. Smiley Happy
