Just added texting to my plan about 15 hours ago. Now i get an error message when i try and send a text message. error message.

Yes, what is the error? Try powering the phone off and on. You'd be surprised what that can resolve. You can also try OTA programming, via *228 option 1.

Dial *228 to reprogram your phone to ensure all programming is up to date.
Power phone off, remove battery, replace after 3-5 seconds, and try sending/receiving a message again.
If the problem persists, contact customer services 1-800-922-0204 to ensure the feature is provisioned to your line properly since changes like these should take effect immediately.
