It all depends on which text feature/plan you have. Look on your bill next to the monthly recurring charges next your mobile number and let us know so we can give you a correct answer. If you are the account holder, you can find your plan online by signing in your My Verizon account at verizonwireless.com.
You may be on an unlimited messaging plan such as the Nationwide Select, Connect or Premium plans. If so, you have unlimited messaging to anyone in the U.S., not just within the VZW network. Other messaging plans offer unlimited mobile to mobile, IN messaging as mentioned above, and an allowance of either 500, 1500 or 5000 messages out of network, or what's called domestic messaging. These individual plans costs $10, $15 and $20 respectively on top of your plan's recurring charges every month. There's also a $5 plan that has an allowance of 250 messages. This 250 message plan has no mobile to mobile benefits -- every message sent or received is deducted from your allowance. If you have none of the above plans, then you're by default on the pay per use plan as mentioned previously. Pay per use rates are $0.20 for each text and $0.25 for picture/video messages. If you're concerned about going over your allowance, call customer care at *611 or 800-922-0204 to speak to a care representative who can backdate a higher messaging plan, but make sure you do so before your bill cycle ends.
Friends and Family gives you unlimited calling to 5 or 10 numbers, but it has nothing to do with messaging. Hope that helps
