My son has the unlimited txt/pix on his plan too, but if he sents a pic to an email address he gets charged $1.99 each time. He called customer service and they told him it uses the web to connect to email and thats why he's being charged.

Oh no  I sent myself 2 ringtones already through e-mail to test and it worked fine.  I wanted to do them that way since they are MP3 clips I made and on the verizon site you can't upload and send mp3 clips only WAV MIDI and a few other formats.  I guess I just can't win with this stuff.  Mary

I'm pretty sure, when I've sent MP3s to my phone via email previously, that it didn't charge. (I have no data plan, but unlimited texting.)

Hopefully someone can clarify this for us, but I think the caveat is that, while sending from phone to email causes data charges, since email to phone comes in as a text, it's considered a text message.

Well the first responses I got made it sound like it was definately free both ways.  I guess I will have to go in and check the account and if not then I guess I can't do that anymore.  I tried to do it from the verizon site under sending pics and videos but that won't let you upload MP3 and WAVS sound horrible as ring tones.  Mary

Well I checked the account under my name and still see just 0.041 under data and that was there before I sent these and I don't see anything that says $1.99. I sent one last night from e-mail to phone and one today.  The new bill for the main account is not up yet so hopefully there won't be any more charges than the 0.041 data on mine and sons account and I have no clue how that got there as I asked and he says he hit no buttons by mistake but not going to argue with them and will just watch every month.  Mary

I doubt you will get charged data usage for pix to email. I know someone who has unlimited pix/text select plan and he does not get charged, so I do not know where 1.99 charge is coming from in the above post.

OK but I sent ringtones from e-mail to phone so  is it free that way too?  I haven't seen any data charges show up under my number other thant the little that was already there.  The $1.99 must be something else that the other poster did.  Mary

A ringtone from email to phone would be included in any messaging package you have. It doesn't count as a "download" of data, acording to Verizon. If you actually purchased a ringtone thru the Verizon app then that would charge you megabytes.
