Send/receive SMS to/from Croatia (or another country not on the list of 120)?

Hello,

 

we purchased a Verizon family plan and to our surprise now noted that Verizon does not allow to send SMS to Croatia or receive SMS from Croatia (which is important for us). It is not on the list of 120 countries where this is possible. Does anyone know if there is an accessory software that could be used to send and receive SMS to and from Croatia (e.g. Skype etc.)? Any help is greatly appreciated!
