I see the new price plans, but it's rather confusing in regards to what they all include.
As I'm looking at my plan, the 700 minute family talk plan, it looks as though it says that Texting and IM is now unlimited, but when i go to my actual My Verizon page it still says there is a limit of 1500 messages which is what my package was before the switch today.
Will my texting actually go to unlimited or am I staying at the max of 1500 messages for the plan that I have chosen?
I don't even see texting plans advertised anymore.
I haven't see the individual texting plans either, but I have it on good authority that those won't change. The TALK plan is the equivalent of the old BASIC plan, and you can add the same texting packages as before; if you currently have Basic + a texting plan, nothing changes. Your plan and limits are the same, and the $5 (250 texts), $10 (500 + M2M unlim.), $15 (1500 + M2M unlim), $20 (5000 + M2M unlim) remain.
The TALK + TEXT is the unlimited texting plan, formerly known as SELECT.
Whatever you have now will not change.

Figures... I was hoping that Verizon was actually trying to compete with Boost and Metro PCS. After looking at these new plans... I would actually be spending more money then I currently am now. No savings at all for me.
If it weren't for the fact that my ex-girlfriend is on Verizon and therfore it's my only way to talk to my kids (they don't have a landline) I would switch as soon as my contract was up. I don't want it to cost her any more money then it already is.

Metro PCS and Boost Mobile barely have 10 million customers combined. They're hardly big competition. Boost Mobile is a prepaid division of Sprint. Prepaid means sub-par phones most of the time, so go the cheapo route if you want, but don't expect an amazing device or amazing service. Metro PCS is the 5th largest network operator in the US with roughly 6.5 million customers. Decent plans and decent phones, so they're not too bad. What they lack is the reliability, speed and massive coverage that VZW has. If they offer good coverage in your area and you don't travel a lot, then Metro might be the better option for you.
Verizon Wireless isn't for everyone.
But really, unlimited calling for $69.99 on VZW's network? Not too bad. That means I can talk for hours and hours while I'm on a camping trip in the woods.
I don't need an amazing device. I only use my phone for calling and texting. I don't use any internet service at all. I'm also on the family plan, so there are no savings for me... I would spend more money overall.
Boost really isn't all that bad and is who I had before Verizon. As a matter of fact, I had Boost coverage in places where Verizon didn't and never had issues with Boost coverage. This is when I was living in Upstate, NY. A very rural area. The only reason whY i left Boost is because my ex-girlfriend switched to Verizon Wireless because her new boyfriend added her to his plan. It would have both cost us money to talk to each other... so I ended up under my mom's Verizon Wireless plan. I pay her for my part of the service.
You may think that companies like Metro PCS and Boost are small companies, but sometimes it really is the small companies that drive the competition.
We have the 700 minute family share plan and have the added unlimited texting. When I called to see if we were due a price reduction was told the 700 and 1400 minute plans don't qualify. I think since we already get 19% off the bill we wouldn't get that extra off anyway. Mary
