Updates are only intended to enhance your device! I certainly want to resolve your concern with picture messages. Are you using the native messaging application? Try clearing the cache/data on the messaging application by going to Settings>App>Select the messaging app and clear. Please ensure mobile data is on and connected, power the device off/on and test.
