International Texting.

With a U.S. phone number, when traveling does it cost extra to text other U.S. numbers? I'm currently in Mexico on vacation and would like to text family and friends back in the U.S., but I'd like to know if there's a fee for that.  I know there's a fee for texting international numbers, but I'm not sure about texting domestic numbers when traveling. Thank you. :]

When you are roaming internationally, the rates for text messaging are $.50/message sent and $.05/message recieved.

Another question. This applies to unlimited texting plans as well, yes?

It does.  Unl plans only cover you in the US.

For cheap international text messaging you can download a java application to your phone which sends messages over your phones GPRS. This works out to be a lot cheaper than sending messages over the network and the only extra costs are data charges (which vary depending on your network provider).

Different services are:

smsbug.com

mobiwireless.com

vyke.com

I personally use a service called FishText, which i have found to be the cheapest and most reliable. To text friends in the U.S. it would cost £0.014 which is about $0.02. You can check it out at www.Fishtext.com
