Instant Messaging - data charges?

I have a Nationwide Select family share plan, and it lists Unlimited Text, Picture, Video, and Instant Messaging. However, the Mobile IM application that it tells you to use says that contact list updates and such count as data.. That would probably happen fairly often, being signed in to an instant messager. Will this be counted as the $1.99/MB data, even though the messages themselves are free?

I may have answered my own question. From the VZW website (after alot of looking before I posted):

Is there a subscription charge for Mobile Instant Messaging?

No. Instant Messages sent and received, User requests to refresh the Contact List, and Service Requests (Add Contact, Block Contact, etc.)are billed as TXT messages according to your pricing plan or TXT bundle. Verizon Wireless highly recommends TXT bundles or price plans with unlimited text messaging for Mobile IM users.

Anyone else have experience to confirm this?

The messages themselves are included with whatever text package you have. The use of the Mobile IM application does incur MB charges though.

I used to use Mobile IM on my old Chocolate but had to stop because of the data charges from it.

It's blatant false advertising.

it's true that there's no subscription charge, they just don't list anything about data charges.

You said "data for list updates" ... I was just pointing out that they specifically state that all service requests - including list updates - are billed as TXT messages.
