lol.  They can't get froyo on the phones in a timely manner.  How long do you think  we'd be waiting for Gingerbread? :smileyvery-happy:

I dunno, Gingerbread is already available on the Nexus S, which has nearly identical hardware to the Galaxy S phones.

The only reason Froyo/Gingerbread/etc take so long, believe it or not, has NOTHING to do with the carrier's bloatware. Those programs are written for a variety of phones to begin with and they're just general Android apps that come preloaded. It's the manufacturer's bloatware. Garbage like Touchwiz, MotoBLUR, HTC Sense, and Sony's overlay, whatever the heck it's called, are the reason for incredibly slow software updates, and the reason that last year's phones won't get this year's OS, ever. If every phone just ran stock android, or if the manufacturers designed their overlays as apps running in Android, the way third party launchers such as ADW/LauncherPro, we wouldn't have these problems. Blame Motorola/Samsung/Sony/LG/HTC/etc for slow updates. It is 100% their fault.

Agreed.  If devices were like the N1 or Nexus S with updates coming directly from google, we'd all be happy.  The worst part is that the 3rd party ui's aren't really an overlay on top of android. They pretty much go in and break Googles code and tie their skins into the base framework which is just poor coding practice to begin with and apparently Samsung is pretty much the worst at it.

Just an fyi. The EOL DROID Eris has a couple of smart developers. Who have worked their magic and created a few stable Gingerbread ROMs for a device that was never to get the FroYo update. One of these days...

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

At least one of those developers is working on the Fascinate to get Gingerbread (CM7 base) running. :smileywink:

Verizon has a history of class action suits against them for various issues. I think this is another issue that should be added to the list. To sell a product with promises of features that will not work without updated software and then not to provide the updates as promised would be in my opinion a valid point for such suit. And to include Samsung to cover all the bases. Just one persons opinion.

Just installed my EB01 Froyo and WOW! No bugs so far and performance is through the roof. The ability to change the system font is awesome, the phone boots and is ready to use twice as fast, GPS is spot on and the camera had a firmware update that installs when you first open the camera which eliminated all the lag. System menus are much nicer looking and quicker. The double caps while typing is gone and email seems to push to the phone instantly. Bing is still the default search but is easily changed in the settings to google or now yahoo also. They also included a password or pin lock screen along with the pattern lock. The browser is awesome and flash is working out to be great, there was a update through the market already for flash today. All the blotwear is still there but hey, it's froyo! You will all be very pleased with it.

Did You

{edit for TOS violation}

The option to change default search is in the browser but doesn't work.  Still defaults to bing regardless of what you have it set as. Also believe the search soft key defaults to Bing unless it's debloated.  Couple other nifty things if you haven't noticed, long pressing on the notification bar and dragging left or right changes the screen brightness and you can now take screenshots by holding the back key and pushing the power button (may not work with some apps).
