Won't update: Update failed or incomplete Code:410?

My wife's Fascinate has this, "Update failed or incomplete Code:410" in the phone's status.  When checking for an update it says none is available.  I've rebooted and pulled the batter to no avail.

Also, since the partial and failed update (apparently?) the phone sends text messages with a bunch of @@@@@ symbols in the end of text message.

Is there a way to resolve this?
