Well I think this article pretty well sums it up. If you are looking for the so called TOTAL Android experience then VZW isn't the place to be. I think most of us feel misled as to how the update process SHOULD or SHOULD'VE go/gone. Yeah VZW has millions of phones, but outta all of Android only 18% are running ICS which in turn means that less than that are Nexus devices so why can't they update them like they do iphones? Because Apple makes the carriers bow down to them and Google plays Mr. Nice Guy when they should grow a pair. I like my phone and I got VZW for the coverage. To me that is more important then being the first to get an update. I am disappointed with VZW but being that COVERAGE is most important to me I won't fret..

Complaining on a customer peer to peer forum is going to help your cause, how?

I am happy with the phone as it is now. I will wait until the update is approved. If I wasn't, I wouldn't be here complaining. I would be elsewhere voiding the warranty I don't even have on my second hand Nexus.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

pay $99 and join the ADC. You will find out how and why they seem to update better. Apple spends months to even deliver a basic update unless it's a basic security fix. It seems they are delivering updates all at the same time because Apple holds updates until all is ready at the same time.

When I purchased my phone at the Verizon Wireless store, (switched from AT&T), I was verbally told by the manager of that store that since the Google Nexus was a "pure Google phone" that I would receive updates directly from Google as soon as the updates were available.  This was stated in the presence of two witnesses.  I would call that a "verbal contract" and can hold, if not Verizon at least the store manager, to that contract.

From the Customer Agreement:

"This agreement and the documents it incorporates form the entire agreement between us.  You can't rely on any other documents, or on what's said by any sales or customer service representatives, and you have no other rights regarding Service or this agreement."

In a perfect world Verizon, Google and Sammy would have come together to provide you with the perfect Nexus experience…they didn’t.  Should you have to manipulate your phone to get that experience?  No!  However, if the manufacturers cannot, will not or are too slow to deliver for you, take matters into your own hands.  You don’t have to be a programmer.  My 12 year old daughter can do it because she can follow simple instructions and execute a few key strokes.  I’ve been running Jelly Bean since the day after it was released at Google I/O and am now on Vicious Jelly Bean v5.  It is considerably better than ICS.  It is stable and it does EVERYTHING I want a phone to do and much more.  So you can either take matters into your own hands and fix the problem or you can continue to come back to an online forum everyday and complain about how Verizon, Google and Sammy are screwing you over and never come any closer to being happy with your phone.

I sure hope Verizon pushes the Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) software update before August.  I switched from AT&T because I was told by the Verizon salesperson that Verizon works directly with Google and they should be the first to get the updates on this "pure Google" phone.  Now I've discovered that AT&T is rolling out Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) HSPA+ version to its customer NOW!  If I do not have Android 4.1 by August 1st, I'm going BACK TO AT&T to get the HSPA+ version!  And I will be AT&T's BIGGEST spokesperson for comparison between service from AT&T and Verizon because I NEVER had this problem with AT&T!

AT&T doesn't sell the GSM version of the Galaxy Nexus. You can purchase it directly from the Play Store. AT&T doesn't support the GSM version for hardware and software. AT&T only can provide the cellular service.

While I am disappointed that I must wait for this update, I understand that Verizon must do their testing and make changes to the software, like blocking Google Wallet (okay, that part is actually unacceptable). In the meantime, I can brush up on the new features with my brother's GSM Galaxy Nexus in preparation, but it will be less understandable after a month passes.

That was my understanding when I bought my Galaxy Nexus. Had I known then what I know now I would have waited for Google to release their GSM phones and gone to TMo.

In a way though I blame Google for not being more stern with Verizon. They should have never agreed to let Verizon add to the Nexus experience. And by add I mean take away.  Apple doesn't let this happen with the iPhone. Google should have the same stance when it comes to the Nexus.
