These aren't houses or cars, they are telephones.  People are going to continue to evaluate their needs versus what's available at the time and make the best choice for them.  If it's Verizon, so be it.  If it's not Verizon, they will switch.  In 2 years when their contract expires, they will reevaluate.

I don't know.  I assume they sold unlimited data plans knowing full well they would phase them out sometime in the future.  As a result, they probably pulled in thousands or millions of new customers.  Now they will probably lose hundreds or a few thousand customers as a result of phasing them out.  On the other hand, the new shared data plans will probably pull in thousands or millions more new customers.

They did know what they were doing when they set up the unlimited data. At the time the network could handle the usage and they knew that eventually the unlimited would go away. So essentially (just like all the other carriers) they provided the allowance they were able to at the time and got the customers who could afford the plan. They aren't evil for changing plans, they still want to provide the plans that will be beneficial to the most customers, at a rate that provides the highest benefit to VZW. The goal hasn't changed, the devices (and the way customers use them) have changed. In essence what I'm saying is that vzw (and pretty much all companies) have always been out to *****  their customers as much as possible, but it's counterbalanced by the fact that they need to at the same time satisfy as many customers as possible to produce the most profit... it's basic capitalism.

Well if your going to talk about "Basic Capitalism" we can expand this to many directions, such as Gov having to bail out companies because they got to greedy and were going to go under, but where "TWO BIG TO FAIL", basic capitalism means if you don't run your company correctly, you go under.  But that's another argument.  As far as Verizon is concerned, we need to stop this "Like all other carriers", Just because EVERYONE is ******** us over, that makes it OK?  And like you said, it's all about profit, not about the customer, so that's why, in the spirit of Capitalism, me, and I'm sure many many others as well, are going to take there hard earned money else where!  But I'm sure they will be fine, there is a never ending supply of suckers out there waiting to get ******* over.  And when there NEW plans don't suit there needs, then they will ***** THOSE customers over as well.  That's why it's pre-pay month to month for me from now on. Not getting locked into these games with contracts anymore.  I suggest many other's do the same thing.

Hey, thats great. I've always encouraged people to change carriers if what VZW offers doesn't meet your needs. My only complaint is when people misrepresent what vzw is doing as somehow evil or immoral. They are doing what they think is best for their business (in this case I agree with them). In fact I believe that with the addition of the family share data plans they will make more of their customers happy than they would by keeping the unlimited data.

Trying to show or remind there are two ends to the scale. The "bandwidth hogs" that use a lot data but also those that have smart phones that use little to no bandwidth.

Thanks for the editorial advice. It nice to know I have a human editor since my computer based one likes to make strange changes. Smiley Happy Now if I can just find the #12 screwdriver and hammer I will have that fixed right away.

I ran a multi-million dollar company for years myself and I feel the people making these choices could be out of a job soon. People make bad choices in business all the time, look at some of the banks lately. The problem is by the time they realize their mistakes their customers will not come back.

Their only going to make some people happy until they get that huge data

overage bill because people will have a harder time keeping up with their "

family " data plan because little Billy used up all the data loading music

onto his Iphone.

When Verizon implements a shared data plan, they need to have tools in place for the account holder to be able to track data easier during the month, and also implement controls to limit data on EACH LINE.

But to allow the account holder to proactively manage the shared data on all lines would be counter productive to Verizon's desire to increase revenue. Watching accounts go over the limit to be able to add blocks of data and increase a persons data bill is one way to increase revenue.

Two things on that:

1. " need to " there will still be no guarantee.

2. I had control of blocking web and texting from my daughters phone and Verizon removed them not once BUT 3 TIMES and it took paying another $10.00 a month to guarantee no more $1,000.00 or higher bills. Verizon will have NO reason or incentive to allow control of these plans. Their planning on overages to make their profit.
