I never had a problem to this date and always had my nfc on. If the NFC cause problems for some then it has to be a RF shielding issue and the phone needs to be replaced.
I guess that is a possibility too. I figured it would be an option for them to test out.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

I have turned off NFC with no improvement. I also discovered that I have most of my issues in areas with 4g. When I am in the LTE/CDMA mode, I completely lose service and doesn't come back even with the suggested fixes. I have to switch to just CDMA mode before service returns and it holds.

Same here, turned off NFC and it still drops when on 4G only...it comes back on its own, but drops again a few minutes later. Actually, since I turned on 4G then turned off NFC about 20 minutes ago, 4G and voice dropped 3 times.
Pulled the battery and SIM after changing the settings but still dropping. My replacement should be here this afternoon, lets hope this one works.

I went to my local Verizon store on Friday to either return or exchange the phone. I told them what was happening and some things I had discovered. They ended up exchanging it for a brand new nexus. Said the switching mechanism in the phone may have been defective. Since I have had the new one, I have only dropped all service once maybe twice.
