Network problems

So, I just got a new nexus. I had to have it replaced already due to network problems. Now, I am finding that it still randomly drops network connection. I started looking into it and based on the discussion from people from other carriers it is a problem with the most recent update to 4.04 instead of the 4.0 2 which is on there when you first turn on the phone.

With a little more reading and homework I found that it drops network in sleep mode .... Well we can't keep the phones on all the time and I would really like to be getting my calls and texts. This is a serious problem. I read that another carrier pushed out another update that fixed the problem. Are other people having problems? I just wanted to make light of this issue so that hopefully it can be fixed quickly.

Some users have signal problems while others do not. It is not related to 4.0.4 because it was also an issue on 4.0.2.

Many people ended up swapping the device in hopes of getting one without the signal issue.

From what I have read more are having signal problems than aren't and most didn't have it with the 4.0.2. That being said, I have already swapped the device twice.  If it is the device it shouldn't have been released with so many not working. Also, if it isn't a problem with an update to the 4.0.4, than why was the problem fixed with another update on another carrier.  I really just want the phone to work and know that I will be getting my calls and messages

Same exact problem...had my Nexus for a week now and dropping the signal about 3-4 times an hour (logged thru No Signal Alert app). This only happens on 4G though, when on 3G, no issues what so ever. They are sending me a replacement so we will see but I am not feeling too confident it will resolve the issue. The good news is leaving it on 3G saves battery and 10x more reliable, just miss the speeds when downloading/streaming music.

I knew going into this device there were signal issues, but no idea it was this bad. I too have read several other forums and articles and the one bit of info I see often is about where the device was assembled. Those who have a device made in Korea report no issues, and those with a device made in China are reporting the issue. Not sure if there is any truth to that, but curious to see where the replacement is from. Mine was assembled in China, what about yours?

OMG!  I just got mine over the weekend and the EXACT thing is happening to me.  I'm furious!  The sales rep talked me out of an iPhone.  What did you do to the resolve the issue?  I'm not getting any calls or texts.  I don't get service anywhere.

That's way too much to go through.  I think I'll take the $25 hit and switch to the iPhone.  I can't be without an unreliable phone.  That's too bad. I agree, they should never have pushed this device out there will the problems.

Switch it to 3G: Settings>More>Mobile Networks>Network Mode then select CDMA.

I could not make or receive calls or text and needless to say, use data when on 4G. Switching it to 3G (at least for me) has been a life saver, not one drop or missed call or text. Sucks to lose the 4G speed, but its a reliable work around til you either decide to go with a replacement or another device

I have had my Nexus since Tuesday.  I went back in Wednesday morning because it kept dropping signal and having no service.  I tried everything and they even replaced the sim card and reactivated the phone.  I still have the same issue and switching the network mode has done NOTHING!.  I am still in the 14 day window for return and will be going with something else.

Has anyone ever thought of turning off NFC communications in the phone? I remember some older posts here where the poster turned off NFC and it helped them. I know that I turned off NFC because I don't have a use for it and I haven't had issues with calls. I have seen data connection issues, but I contribute those instances to bad signal and building interference.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

I never had a problem to this date and always had my nfc on. If the NFC cause problems for some then it has to be a RF shielding issue and the phone needs to be replaced.
