Fascinate won't connect to computer

My Fascinate will not connect to my computer. When plugging in, the phone starts to charge but there is no notification on the phone that it is connected. I have tried "Ask on connection" and "Mass storage" on the USB settings and I never get a USB indication on the notifications page. I have updated to the latest driver on my computer, no effect. I have even tried using Vcast on my computer and it doesn't see it. Tried using the debugging option and it didn't do anything. Tried different cord, still nothing. Using update 2.2 and Win7.

Thank you for your inquiry. Adding to what was stated; please try rebooting your computer without the device connected to via the USB. Then try these steps to attempt transferring your files on your device to the computer. The USB cable can also charge the device when connected into the computer.

For transferring files using the Mass Storage USB settings:

1. From the Home screen, touch Menu, Settings, USB Settings, USB, then select Mass Storage.

2. Attach your phone to the computer with a USB cable that came with your phone. Your phone should be recognized and displayed in the USB in the Annunciation Line / Notifications Panel.

(In some cases, users have experienced after updating, the Samsung USB driver can automatically download or prompt you to download it to your computer. Afterward, you can install it to your computer.  Afterward, remove the USB Cable and reconnect it between your phone and the computer. The option available at that point would be to connect to USB Storage of which you would select it. Then your device avatar will turn orange and a message displayed that the USB storage is in use.)

3. Display the Notifications Panel, touch USB connected. At the prompt, touch Mount to enable copying of files between your computer and the memory card.

.

4. At the prompt on the computer, select a transfer method.

5. Open device to view files using Windows Explorer.

6. Drag and drop files from the PC and/or to the memory card installed in your phone.

Just to be accurate, I assume you updated the drivers supplied by verizon and samsung, not window drivers for your phone. Try a different port on your pc. Check device manager and see if the device shows up or you have any yellow question marks in device manager.

Doesn't work for me either.  Even installed VCast media manager on PC and that simply shut down each time it booted up.

What is the next step?

What is it you are trying to get to the phone? Music? Pictures? Videos? There are other ways of doing it. I do not connect my phone to my computer, I use a paid app called iSyncr and iSyncr WiFi to get all of those things sync'ed between the 2 devices. Yes, it is a paid app, but for $2.99 and $.99, isn't it worth $4.00 to get rid of the aggravation? If you just want to try the app, there is a iSyncr Lite and iSyncr WiFi Lite version in the Marketplace that is free.

Hope this helps.

A few corrections as noted below.

There is no option for USB Mode, just make sure Mass Storage is selected.

2. Attach your phone to the computer with a USB cable. Your phone should recognizes the connection and displays USB connected in the Annunciator Line and Notifications Panel.

The first time I connected my phone to my CP after the 2.2 update, it automatically downloaded and installed the Samsung USB driver.  Make sure you use the USB cable that came with the phone (Not sure why that would be a dealbreaker, but supposedly it is).  When you connect the usb cable to your phone and CP from now on, you will see a green Android avatar on your phones screen.  The only option available is "Connect USB Storage".  Select it.  A blue dialog box will appear, select "OK".  Give it a moment, and then your Android avatar will turn orange and a message underneath will state that "USB storage in use".

3. Display the Notifications Panel, then touch USB connected. At the prompt, touch Mount to enable copying of files between your computer and the memory card.

You can disregard this.

4. At the prompt on the computer, select a transfer method.

5. Open device to view files using Windows Explorer.

6. Drag and drop files from the PC and/or to the memory card installed in your phone.

Personally, I would not recommend using the Verizon Media Manager.  It's more trouble than it's worth.  Once you get the orange Android Avatar, your phone will be connected to your computer and then you can treat it just like a removable drive.  Use option #6 above to copy/move files back and forth.  You can also use the Windows Media Player to sync your music to your phone - yes, it can and does work.  If you need help with that, just let me know.
