Re: when will the samsung galaxy s3 get the 4.3 jelly bean update?

Now that is a decent reply.  Information!  I like it!  Thank you.

Things don't necessarily make sense to us (the general population) unless someone with knowledge of the situation explains WHY they don't say anything.  Again I will say I DO appreciate VZ trying to make this a good update, and as bug free as possible.

At this point all I can think is that there must be some bug or flaw that's keeping them from releasing it, and I do understand my two phones are different hardware internally, and require some software differences which could be the root of the delay.

Having designed PCB's, built them, written/debugged code, etc. I can certainly appreciate the issues involved in the process.

I will also mention to my friend who has said google phone that was not updated your knowledge on why that likely happened.

what can you do on the at&t phone that you can't do on the verizon s3?

go jump to at&t & on your personal phones& probably end up coming back to verizon when their support/coverage isn't up to your wishes/desires.

Once again, I have to disagree with you on several fronts.  First, you state that the carriers are not the issue.  Fine, but what is the reason that the other carriers have deployed 4.3 and this one has not?  You've stated in other posts that its due to issues with the software.  Yet I have not seen widespread major issues with the software on the other carriers / other handsets.  Like you, I read the other device / carrier forums on places like Android Central and XDA. I do not see significant issue arising there.  Yes, there are the occasional hiccups but by and large, it seems to have been a fairly uneventful deployment, as these things go.

Regarding your assertion about statements from OEMs and transparency.  I find that Motorola is quite transparent right now.  Punit Soni is on Google+ regularly hinting at the release dates for various flavors of upgrades.  If you are a Moto X user, you had a pretty good idea when you were getting KitKat based on Mr. Soni's comments.  HTC One committed to a timetable for releasing KitKat on the HTC One.  Neither of these entities gave a precise date/time.  Nor are VZW users asking for that.  We would simply like the courtesy of being informed about the general status of products and services we have purchased from Verizon / Samsung.

Its pretty bad when a number of tech journalists have started referring to the failure to roll out 4.3 as inexplicable.  People notice.  Dominant market positions do not last forever and pride usually goeth before the fall.

Wait for 4.4 (KitKat)???

Seriously?  That would be years down the line IF it ever happened!

I just want what I was told on Friday (12/13/13) that the update had already started and now it's 5 days later and NOTHING!

Very SAD Verizon!!

Please show me where Punit said a release date. An actual hard date and not a hint. I speak to Punit, and JBQ(he's no longer head of AOSP) regularly, and not once have they ever given a hard date of any kind. They don't tell you if any problems arises or if there is a delay(they don't have to because well they didn't give you a hard date).

You should read up on JBQ findings with Sony. Just because a device on another carrier has an update doesn't mean it's the carriers fault. A different RIL HAL, and radio are used between them which means it has to go through governmental bodies differently. One could pass sooner than the other. JBQ found out it could take up to 6 months alone. That doesn't include if the carrier sees a bug they want fixed. It goes back to the manufacturer(which the manufacturer never state had happen. They'd rather you blame carriers and take their time). People on other devices WANT to downgrade, but you have to void your warranty to downgrade now. Thanks to Samsung...

Motorola did give a timeline for X updates, they also gave a timeline for Moto G updates.  HTC did give a timeline for HTC One updates.  Sony does give timelines for their updates.

The S3 was updated on 3 major US carriers by now, so the excuse about different radios, etc. is pretty much a useless one to peddle at this point.

There is almost no excuse for this type of delay/lag behind the other carriers.

The only major issue on the other GS3s, is the persistent notification for files that were downloaded, something that is easily remedied by clearing data for the "Downloads" app.  I have issue even calling that an "issue."

The Galaxy Nexus still hasn't gotten 4.3 even though both the Google and Sprint Model getting it, so I'm surprised you have the gall to try to peddle those excuses for Verizon.

AT&T coverage isn't that bad and their LTE is decent.

I did move to Verizon for better LTE while traveling, but AT&T launched LTE in some of the markets I traveled to like 2 months after I moved.  I have extremely bad coverage around home now (1 bar of 1x, nothing if the phone is in a pocket or under a table, etc.), so I'm most likely going back to ETFing and going back to AT&T this month.

I was hoping this update would improve the radio and signal performance, but I'm not going to roll into another payment cycle with this contract if I don't even know when the update will come or if it'll ever address the issue.

I rather just move to a better carrier and it will give me a chance to dump android and move to a platform that supports their users better (iOS or Windows Phone 8).

I am kinda regreding leaving att for verizon. I thought since verizon should be a better company I would get updates faster and more support.  I am wrong. The s3 for att got the 4.3 my friends with tmo also got 4.3 and nexus for tmo got kit kat. I shouldn't of keft in aug and stayed with att. Got 1.5 years left of being fooled and lied too. Shoh ldve did my research before making the switch. When will we get the 4.3 update for the gs3??

"We're already hard at work every day..."

Those words right there, are the words that always grind my gears.

There are too many phones in the Verizon lineup that are being artificially limited for no technical reason at all. And don't blame the OEMs. Verizon can easily pick up the phone and ask those OEMs to send out the updates/upgrades. Now if the OEMs refuse to send them out, then just say that.

Check it out for yourself and you'll find out how many of your cellphones have the necessary hardware such as dual core processors and with more than enough RAM to run Jellybean without experiencing any hiccups. Yet countless VZW customers are being denied the latest OS.

It's been a year that i have my phone the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE and it's still stuck on 4.0 (ICS). Come Dec. of 2014 i'll be even more informed. Especially when it comes to OS updates/upgrades. Besides looking for that phone with the best voice/call quality. I'll be looking for that OEM and wireless carrier that pushes out OS updates/upgrades asap, and if that means leaving VZW, then so be it.
