SSID is the network name that is broadcasted for your wireless network.
When you hook a wireless router like Netgear or Linksys etc. It has first a generic name and no security protocol so you hook it up, let it be accessed via your computer interface and log into it with login: Admin Password: password is usually how you access the router.
You then can change the name of your network to what you like. Normally it will broadcast as the router name and model so when you scan for networks it may say Netgear000012345678 etc. But in order to connect you need a pass code. Never run an open network.
Good Luck

what you will name the wi-fi connection...could be your name, netgearxxx, linksys101, etc. on some routers you can hide/not broadcast the ssid from outsiders & remain anonymous but that depends on the router.
