"Unfortunately, SDM has stopped"

How can I fix the error "Unfortunately, SDM has stopped" (software download manager). I cannot install software updates over wifi or the mobile network. I can however, update through Software upgrade assistant through a PC. I believe I have the most up-to-date software but I receive the error message frequently, 3-4 time per week.

Thank you for reaching out to us regarding your phone and the error alert message you are receiving, sliechty. Here to help out! Have you tried backing up all your data, and performing a hard reset? I encountered a similar issue with a prior phone, and backing up and resetting fixed the software update issue for me personaly.
