Let us know if this actually works because Verizon just responded to my complaint by telling me to do a hard reset. I don't want to go through all of that and lose everything if it's not even going to work. Ideally I don't want to hard reset at all.

Since the update I am worse off.

I can't just toggle the wifi off/ on I have to toggle airplane mode to get wifi to connect.

Don;'t want to hard reset unless absolutely necessary and sure that it works.

Anyone else getting this "unauthorized access to a secured area has been blocked" ?

I spent the time to do a factory reset.  I was hopeful at first as it located my wifi and then when I put in the password it connected right away.  I decided to keep it in "safe mode" for a bit to make sure that any software that got automatically reinstalled wouldn't be the culprit.  I got home and inputted the password for my wifi (wiped out by the factory reset) and it wouldn't connect but, as before, when I toggled the wifi off/on it then connected.

So, the factory reset DID NOT fix the problem.  I am still stuck with a phone that will only connect to wifi if it is toggled off/on and thus as I walk around my building and hit dead spots I am disconnected until I do so causing me to eat up data off of 4g.

This really needs to be addressed as a priority.  With only about 1/7 of android users on 4.22 or above this problem is going to just be more widespread as more people update.

Thanks.

Glad I didn't waste my time.

Like I said I can't even toggle the wifi now. I have to put it in airplane mode and then back.

This need to be fixed ASAP

Mine is now working.  This morning, I updated a few apps, Facebook and Chase, Ebay, and Amazon mobile apps. I am not sure if one of these app updates did the trick or not, but it is the only thing that I can think of that I did in the last 24 hours.  If you have one of these apps, i would recommend trying it.

Hard reset was done, didn't do anything. In fact, now there are networks that i cannot connect to. My wifi at work, which was never a problem is no longer connecting to my phone. I have connected with my computer so its not an issue with the network. This whole problem needs to be fixed.

And verizon is absolutely correct. Verizon provides cellular and data services and coverage for a monthly price.

Samsung is the maker of the devices and the operating system is done by Samsung/Google and then submitted to Verizon to eventually push out to their customers. Verizon is not responsible for a bad operating system update, Samsung is.

I've just stumbled across proof that Verizon does not just pass the Samsung OS update through unchanged. In Settings > More > Locations services, since the update there is now a single setting to enable GPS & Verizon location services. It used to be possible to enable GPS without Verizon location services, whether from the Notification settings or this Settings menu, but that is no longer the case. Turning on GPS, even from the Notification area, turns on Verizon location services too. Clearly this comes from VZW, not Samsung, so they're not just passing the update through to their customers.

There was already ZERO question that Verizon makes its own modifications because, until this update, the Verizon version was missing features found with the S4 and every other carrier (blocking mode, optical reader, etc...) and had bloatware not found with other carriers.

While as end users we will never know whether this problem was caused by Google (i.e. android), Samsung (i.e. Touchwiz) or Verizon (other mods) the fact remains that Verizon clearly had its hands on the finished product that was pushed out and was the ONLY party with control over finally releasing it.  To suggest that they bear no blame for not properly testing it and then not addressing serious issues is absurd.

Not applicable

It is no question that Verizon and others add their crap to the update that is tested at Samsung, Sony, HTC etc. (Not Apple)

Google provides it to the manufacturer who tests and certify its ready for your device. Verizon gets it, tinkers with it and pushes it eventually to the device owners. Since there are complaints after OS updates it would be hard to pin point who shares the blame. As I always said only the device makers just like Apple should provide updates. Not the carriers.

Good Luck

Wish I had seen this thread weeks ago.  I think I've had the same problem but didn't realize it was so widespread.  I have the icon at the top which says my wifi is connected but my emails, updates, etc...never come through until I leave my location and it switches to 4G.  I've had the same problem at home, but had internet trouble at home so I chalked it up to that and not the phone.  I've managed to get it to connect by turning wifi off and on, just like the rest of you.

After the 4.3 update yesterday, I am now getting notifications that say "your internet connection is unstable."     That's a new one...never got that before.

I have a lot of stuff on my phone.  There is no way I am doing a hard reset....especially if results are sketchy.  Hopefully they will identify a fix for this soon.  In the mean time, the toggle off/on is still working for me.....for now.
