So apparently it works doing it that way. But the wifi calling icon doesn't show up so I couldn't tell.

Weth and SpringTX, I want to make sure you are aware of the settings available to you when using Wi-Fi calling. Wi-Fi calling is a great feature that allows you to make those calls when you need to.

You can adjust the settings for preferred networks when using Wi-Fi calling. Go here, and you’ll see a section for Wi-Fi Calling Setup and Use. Number 3 should be the question and answer on how to select your preferred network.

Keep us posted on what happens.

Verizon-

The Wi-Fi calling setup instructions say, "Once you set up Wi-Fi Calling, making Wi-Fi calls is as simple as making traditional voice calls. Calls will use the cellular network if available to provide you the most reliable experience...."

And therein lies the problem.  I am one of the many people who live in a fringe area for Verizon cellular coverage. The coverage is just enough to cause the phone to decide there is "cellular coverage" and use it for phone calls instead of wifi. And, of course, the quality of the call is horrible, as I have been saying.

The way it works defeats the purpose of wifi calling. This is a software engineering problem. So please report it as such. When you do. I will then click "correct answer" .

Completely agree with you . Half my street is a dead zone. No carriers can get service. I've been using wifi calling on a different carrier for 7 years. But now that I'm on Verizon it doesn't work right. I really hope they fix it so you can choose wifi calling only like all the other carriers. Otherwise there's no point in having the option the way it is now.

Yep, Verizon should make their system work more like Republic Wireless. Prefer Wi-Fi  & switch to cellular ONLY when the Wi-Fi connection is lost or if the user forces it.

I have this issue as well. It's not that I'm in a bad cell area, it's that the cell service does not penetrate my house.

My house is a concrete walled home with metal rebar/lattice work throughout the concrete.  Literally there's nothing VZ can do to boost the signal, because outside it's awesome.  It's why I wanted Wifi Calling...

But even when I set "Prefer Wifi when roaming" it doesn't help, because I have LOW signal, not NO signal.

Verizon... for the money we pay, this should be a no brainier- T-Mobile has a simple toggle to "Prefer Wifi".

The work around I have at this point is to set my phone to "Airplane Mode" - and then toggle wifi "On" and then it will make wifi calls... but I have to remember to turn airplane mode off.

I am having the same problems with Wifi Calling.  I am constantly losing calls. People hear me or I can't hear them.  I have two homes (Hawaii and Arizona) both of which have high speed internet.  I have Apple Routers in one location and Asus in the other.  I have LGV20 and iPhone 7 phones.

I have 300mbs in Arizona  (Cox) and 100mbs in the Hawaii (Oceanic TimeWarner).  Internet is running perfect and PING times are incredibly good.

So, its clear that it is Verizon Wifi Calling and not any of the other variables.  What is even worse, is that Verizon service in Arizona (North Scottsdale) not out in the boonies has degraded over the months and forced me into looking at Wifi Calling.  I have no solutions.

Is Wifi Calling still in BETA?  What is the expectation of this service?

I have the exact opposite experience. Our Wi-Fi calling on four different iPhones  works flawlessly  and hands off gracefully when you leave the house or the office  with the better signal  outdoors
