Why is my friend able to receive phone calls on Verizon service?

Why is my friend able to receive phone calls on Verizon service and I can't, when we're sitting next to each other? Also, my calls consistently drop when I'm driving through the same place although your map says there is service there.

When I'm in the office, my phone doesn't ring. If I'm on the phone as I'm walking into the office, it immediately drops the call. However, coworkers of mine are able to use their Verizon phones with no problem.

Also, when I'm in the car, there are a few spots where my calls always get dropped.  This didn't happen with my old phone.  Is it a phone antennae issue?

thanks.

As you guessed, you may have a bad antenna.

The calls are also routed over the VoLTE network instead of CDMA 1xRTT network. If the phone loses the VoLTE network it drops the call as it doesn't fall back on the 1xRTT network anymore.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Very possibly you have a bad device. I'd recommend installing a cell signal level application on your device like one of the following from the PlayStore: Network Cell Info Lite, and/or Advanced Signal Status

If you have an iPhone, then look for something on iTunes that does something similar.

I've gleaned the following from the web regarding reported metrics in these apps:

RSRP – The average power received from a single Reference signal, and Its

typical range is around -44dbm (good) to -140dbm(bad).

Better than -88dBm RSRP is a strong signal
Between -89dBm and -96dBm is a very good signal
Between -97dBm and -105dBm is good
Between -106dBm and -112dBm is fair
Worse than -113dBm RSRP is poor

RSRQ – Indicates quality of the received signal, and its

range is typically -19.5dB(bad) to -3dB (good).

Greater or equal to -10dB (excellent)

Between -10 to -15dB (good)

Between -15 to -20 (Fair to Poor*)

Less than -20 (Bad*)

RSSNR – Indicates the Signal to Noise ratio of the signal, the higher the better

Greater or equal to 20 Excellent

                Between 13 to 20 Good

Between 0 to 13 (Fair to Poor*)

Less than or equal to 0 (Bad*)

Note: *qualifiers are mine.

You can see how your phone is receiving 4G service in the location you are in.

Now you go into a Verizon Corporate Store and you calmly explain your issue and you ask politely if they'll help you do a test to see if it's your phone that you might have to send off for service. Install the same app on the same brand/model phone as the one you have. If your numbers disagree significantly and are less than the one in the store, it's probably your phone.

If the numbers agree, ask that the app be installed on another manufacturer's make/model phone. If your numbers are less than that of the other manufacturer's then maybe it's a brand/model problem.

If some kind soul in the store won't work with you, at least ask a friend with the same model phone or even different model phone to compare numbers in the same place.

Hope it helps.

Good luck.

KDaggett, help is here as you deserve a properly working phone. When did these issues begin? What are you experiencing with the other functions of your device, i.e. text messages and data usage? We definitely want to get down to the bottom of this. Has any troubleshooting been performed on the device thus far. If so, what has been completed?
